The adoption process in Purrs

Adopting a cat is a serious commitment, both for the adopter and for the person who rescued the cat. In Purrs, the adoption process is designed to help both sides communicate clearly, build trust, and make thoughtful decisions.

Our experience shows that successful adoptions usually happen when the process is calm, transparent, and structured from the beginning.

Here’s how the adoption process works in Purrs.

Step 1: The rescuer publishes the cat

The process starts when a rescuer creates an adoption listing for a cat.

Each listing includes detailed information about the cat, such as:

  • age, sex, and appearance
  • health and veterinary status
  • personality and behavior
  • compatibility with other animals or children
  • adoption conditions and special requirements
  • location and transport options

All listings in Purrs go through moderation and only indoor, safely accommodated cats are approved for publication.

Step 2: Candidate adopters browse and choose a cat

People looking to adopt can browse available cats and read their full profiles.

Adoptions work best when adopters have spent enough time to understand the cats’ personalities, health information, lifestyle compatibility, and adoption conditions before deciding to apply.

Adoption is an emotional decision, but it should also be a practical one. Adopters should try to make sure the cat matches their home, routine, and expectations.

Step 3: The adopter sends an adoption application

When someone decides they want to adopt a cat, they submit an adoption form through the platform.

The application includes:

  • contact information
  • household details
  • previous experience with animals
  • information about other pets in the home
  • lifestyle and living environment

This helps rescuers better understand the potential adopter and decide whether the home would be suitable for the cat.

In Purrs, rescuers are expected to respond to every applicant within the following day, even if they decide not to continue with the adoption.

Clear communication helps adopters continue their search and keeps the process respectful for everyone involved.

Step 4: Conversation and additional questions

Communication between the rescuer and the adopter can happen through the built-in private messaging system or via phone.

After receiving an application, the rescuer and adopter usually continue the conversation directly.

This stage often includes:

  • discussing the cat’s personality and routine
  • talking about expectations and responsibilities
  • clarifying medical or behavioral needs
  • discussing transport and logistics

Our practice shows that this part of the process is extremely important. Many successful adoptions happen because both sides communicate openly and honestly from the start.

Step 5: Home visit

Before the adoption is finalized, rescuers often visit the future home of the cat.

The goal is not to judge the adopter, but to make sure the environment is safe and appropriate for the specific cat.

During the visit, rescuers usually check:

  • whether windows and balconies are secured
  • where the cat will stay during the adaptation period
  • whether there are dangerous plants or hazards
  • how other pets in the home behave
  • whether the overall environment feels calm and suitable

Home visits also help adopters ask practical questions and prepare more confidently for the arrival of the cat.

Step 6: Final approval and adoption

If both sides feel comfortable moving forward, the adoption is approved.

The rescuer and adopter arrange:

  • transport
  • transition details
  • food or medical instructions
  • documents or health information

Some cats adjust quickly. Others need more time, patience, and routine during the first days in their new home.

Step 7: Follow-up after adoption

In many cases, communication continues after the adoption.

Rescuers often appreciate updates, photos, or messages during the first weeks. This helps them know the cat is adapting well and gives adopters support if questions come up.

This follow-up communication creates trust and helps both sides feel more confident about the transition.

Building safe and successful adoptions

Our platform is built around responsible adoption, transparency, and long-term wellbeing for the animals.

A structured process helps rescuers protect the cats they saved and gives adopters the information and support they need to make the right decision.

When both sides communicate openly and move step by step, the result is usually what matters most — a stable, loving home for the cat.
